Denim skirts: Check Walking Room Without Assuming Stretch

A denim skirt has the waist measurement you need, but its narrow hem raises a separate question about your normal stride.
Check walking space at the narrowest hem
Use a skirt with a comfortable stride as your reference and measure its hem opening. Compare the candidate's finished shape and any slit, including where the slit begins. A straight denim skirt and a flared one provide space in different ways. Do not assume a listed fibre blend supplies enough stretch to correct an unsuitable narrow hem. The product information needs to establish the construction you intend to use. If a photograph shows only a standing pose, seek a clear rear or side view so a hidden slit does not become an unanswered fit question. Mark the slit endpoint on your reference drawing rather than recording the skirt length alone.
Compare waist and hip while sitting
Sit in the reference skirt at the waist height you actually wear. Note whether the waistband pulls, the front closure presses or the skirt rises more than you want. Measure garment waist and hip at the manufacturer's stated points rather than comparing arbitrary distances below the waistband. A comfortable standing waist does not resolve the seated hip shape. If the candidate's chart lists only body dimensions, keep that distinction visible. Do not increase the whole size solely to fix the stride without considering how the larger waist and hip would then rest.
Inspect the slit and closure as moving parts
Check the slit length and placement against the coverage you want while seated, not only against the amount of walking room. A front slit and a back slit create different visible openings. Inspect the closure type and any inner fastening so you know how the waist is secured. If pockets are important, establish their usable space and whether their bags affect the outline. Decorative hardware should not distract from these details. Choose the arrangement that makes your intended route and seated position comfortable without requiring repeated adjustment of the fabric.
Read the selected wash's actual care information
The word denim does not establish colour transfer, shrinkage or the care process for a particular skirt. Read the composition and cleaning instructions for the exact wash, especially if the skirt will be paired with pale tops or seats. Decide where it belongs in your existing laundry rotation. If an alteration is planned, consider how it would change the slit and hem proportions before ordering. Reject a candidate whose walking space is justified only by an unverified stretch claim. A useful skirt purchase resolves the relationship between waist, hip, slit and hem as one garment.
